Happy Spring!

Oh look, it me.

It’s March! Spring is here! Flowers are blooming and the earth is heating up once again. And the US is getting vaccinated! Where I live, hope is definitely in the air that in the next few months, things will start seeming more normal.

It’s also a great time to take stock of what you’ve created over the last year. Or maybe even just the last three months.

How did you do with all of the things you promised yourself you were going to use this time for?

Did you make New Year’s resolutions?

How’d it go?

If you’re like most people, you were really psyched to have some free time and to get started with your plan. This was going to be your year!

And then after a few days or weeks we think, “Again?! I have to show up and do the thing AGAIN?!”

And it’s less exciting and more like drudgery and the couch is calling and you know what? Just forget it.

You know what else? That’s totally normal.

There’s a lot going on in life, and we don’t typically slow down to pay attention to whether we’re following through on the things we tell ourselves we’re going to do.

And that skill is like a muscle.

If you’re only practicing making a decision and intentionally sticking to it a few times a year, that’s like going to the gym once every four months and trying to deadlift 300 pounds.

Not only is it going to be hard and terrible, you might get so fed up that you decide it wasn’t worth it in the first place and quit before you’ve even really started.

So maybe start with 5 pound weights.

One of the cool things about coaching is that we make declarations almost every week. Different things we’re going to practice or actions we’re going to take. It’s basically like doing Resolution Reps – by the time New Year’s rolls around, you’re already a pro. You’ve been consistently hitting the gym and know you’re going to keep it up.

But you don’t have to be working with a coach to start today.

Decide that you’re going to cook a veggie omelette for dinner and then follow through even when that frozen pizza is calling your name. Commit to 15 minutes working on your business plan. One 10-minute yoga video.

Practice trusting yourself that you’re the kind of person who follows through with the things you’ve decided by starting yourself off with really easy things to follow through on.

Then as you build that muscle, bump up the weight. Next thing you know, you’ll be consistently taking action towards that dream life of yours and it’ll feel like you just seamlessly integrated it into what you already had going on.

You’ve totally got this!
